Careful with
low cost monitoring devices that use HMOS (heated
metal oxide sensor) technology. We have tested them thoroughly in our shop and
concluded that they do not work reliably in smoky or high VOC environments.
- Reason: The HMOS monitors and controllers
can have the following
problems:
- a.) They need to be "warmed up" for about 2-3 days when
initially installed before they work accurately.
- b.) If exposed to a contamination such as cigarette smoke they
almost completely stop sensing the ozone, and in the case of a controller
allow the ozone generator to continue running until a very toxic level is
reached. Once this has occurred the unit will take 12-48 hours to clear
the contamination from the sensor, after the contamination has been
removed from the room.
